Anthias Consulting's gas chromatography courses gain seal of approval for CPD training by the Royal Society of Chemistry

Anthias Consulting's training courses in the analytical techniques of gas chromatography and mass spectrometry have been approved by the Royal Society of Chemistry for the purposes of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for a further three years.

The approval further strengthens Anthias Consulting's portfolio of analytical training courses and highlights the quality of the training for those looking to develop their professional knowledge and skills.

Assessment by the Royal Society of Chemistry course approval scheme involves peer review to set criteria by experts in their field. The approval underlines the high quality of the training material, meeting rigorous quality standards along with demonstrating continual appraisal and improvement of the course.

Anthias Consulting's approved courses provide a complete training programme in gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), from beginner level through to advanced training. Courses are available as classroom-based courses to learn all the practical theory and hands-on training in the laboratory.

The Absolute Basics of GC & GC-MS is a one-day introduction to gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. The course is aimed at complete beginners and is suitable for anyone looking to learn more about these techniques. Anthias have trained delegates from a wide range of roles including lab and line managers, data analysts, service engineers and those involved in sales and marketing of instruments and consumables.

The Complete GC & GC-MS course is built from the Practical Essentials of GC & GC-MS and the GC & GC-MS Clinic courses. The Complete course gradually build delegate's knowledge by taking them through each stage of analysis and goes into a high level of detail of each component of the system at each stage; from sample collection to reporting. The chemistry of the sample is considered at each step and how this guides the end goal of the analysis. From this detailed knowledge base, the course guides analysts to approach method development then the maintenance and troubleshooting of their instruments with confidence. Through a combination of presentations, instrument parts and consumables to see and case studies to work through, the course focuses on the practical side of the techniques rather than theoretical, which can be applied the instant delegates return to their lab.

Anthias Consulting regularly welcomes delegates from around the world onto their public scheduled training courses hosted at The Open University in Milton Keynes. In response to the global situation with COVID-19, Anthias launched their online training courses in April 2020 via an interactive Virtual Classroom. Anthias trainers have continued to deliver classroom courses online, supporting analysts and technicians to continue their professional development.

The live training courses are presented through a Virtual Classroom offering a suite of features to facilitate an interactive experience. Delegates can ask live questions as they progress through the course, either by using their microphone or by typing into the chat box. Course dates have now been scheduled through to the end of the year, while Anthias work with their training venues to return to face-to-face training, on-demand training is also available.

The Hands-on Complete GC & GC-MS provides the same practical theory as the classroom-based courses, along with guided practicals on the instruments for hands-on practice in the lab. Anthias consultants can deliver their hands-on training onsite in the UK.

Also approved with the gas chromatography courses is the Applied Method Validation course. This advanced course looks at the process of validating a method from start to finish; from initial planning through to ongoing monitoring of performance, with practical exercises to apply the knowledge. The course is applicable to all disciplines and instrumentation and is aimed at those with good knowledge of the base technique and looking to improve their knowledge in method validation.

Anthias Consulting's gas chromatography courses were first approved for CPD by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in 2009. Anthias Consulting was one of the first companies to achieve recognition through the RSC's current course approval scheme launched in 2014 and their gas chromatography courses have been approved continuously since. The Complete GC & GC-MS course has been run as a public scheduled course since 2007 and has welcomed hundreds of delegates from around the world from a range of industries and roles.

Anthias' Director and Senior Consultant Diane Turner said: "We are very proud to receive this recognition for our training courses. We have adapted our training online throughout this past year and have been delighted to continue to share our knowledge and expertise with our past and new customers around the world via Virtual Classroom training. We strive to continuously improve our courses and this approval highlights our commitment to listening to feedback and enhancing the experience of attending our training courses."

The approved training courses can be found on the Royal Society of Chemistry's searchable database of approved training which provides access to high quality training for its members.

Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) members can benefit from a 20% discount on Anthias Consulting's training courses in 2021.
