Inductively coupled plasma - the ion source that generates ions for Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES), also known as Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES), and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), typically runs on argon excited by 27 or 40 MHz RF supply, operating at ~10000 ºC. Can detect most elements in the periodic table. The only elements which cannot be measured by ICP methods are C, H, O, N and the halogens.
