GC-MS/MS

The gas chromatograph is hyphenated with a tandem mass spectrometry, also known as MS/MS or MSⁿ. In MS/MS, there are multiple stages to the fragmentation of the molecule, resulting in increased selectivity, sensitivity and a higher degree of identification. MS/MS is usually performed with ion trap (IT), triple quadrupole (QQQ) and quadrupole-time-of-flight (QToF) mass spectrometers.
