The Cutting Edge GC seminar took place this week both in Newbury and at York University, bringing together four companies with their new, innovative ideas for the analysis of complex samples and trace compounds.
ALMSCO International introduced their BenchTOF-dx Time-of-Flight mass spectrometer, showing results from both GC-ToFMS and GCxGC-ToFMS, proving that it was fast enough to see these very narrow peaks and had better than unit mass resolution.
NLISIS Chromatography presented their innovative Meltfit for coupling capillary columns in GC & GCxGC with minimal dead volume, high reliability and speed!
SpectralWorks produces software for both the control of analytical instruments and the data mining of MS/analogue data regardless of vendor. As an open access solution, the web based sample acquisition can be accessed from computers both on and off-site.
Zoex UK presented their three solutions for GCxGC with the Zoex ZX-1 and ZX-2 thermal modulators and Agilent's capillary flow modulator along with a demonstration of GC Image, the software used to process GCxGC data.
With the vendor presentations taking place in the morning, the afternoon was a good opportunity to try out Zoex's GC Image software, look at ALMSCO's ToFMS data, have a go with NLISIS' meltfit and evaluate SpectralWork's software, along with the opportunity to network with other analysts and discuss cutting edge technology to solve their problems. Overall it was a very enjoyable and informative day.
